“We hold SOMA’s knowledge and experience in flexible packaging solutions in high regard and this was a key factor in our choice of machine…

The press also offers excellent value in terms of price, engineering and production quality.” Pawel Daniluk, DK Lamin.

P.P.D.K. Lamin Sp. j. of Poland was one of the first companies to purchase the new Imperia 8CL. The eight colour press is designed to print and convert flexible packaging materials in web widths from 1100mm to 1300mm in extended print repeats ranging from 330 mm to 1300mm.

Designed for speeds up to 450 m/min, the press is equipped with sophisticated control system, 3-chip digital visual inspection camera, automatic ink viscosity control and corona treater. “A particular feature of the press is SOMA’s Q-Shield System, says Pavla Kusa of Soma. This provides thermal stabilisation to the central impression drum in relation to the temperature of the machine, frames, sleeves shafts, printing decks and ambient air. This is essential for longer print repeats as temperature deviations impact on print impression and affect the integrity of the printing plates and sleeves being used. Q-Shield removes the thermal energy generated by surrounding press components to ensure consistent print quality and maintain ambient temperature levels that also avoid ink drying on the plates during long print runs.”

Outlining the reasons for the purchase, Pawel Daniluk explained, “We are experiencing continual growth and additional capacity was needed for both present and future demands. Currently the SOMA press operates at 50% capacity. Because we operate 24 hours a day

, the press will run around two weeks per month giving us room for further growth. We currently print a wide range of filmic materials at an average speed of 250 – 300 m/min with average prints runs of 15 – 20 km. The new press will help us to enter new markets such as shrink film and pet food packaging. We chose the Imperia 8CL because it is capable of printing extended repeat lengths for the large formats these markets demand for bulk capacities.

DK Lamin was established in 1990 and now has 80 employees. The company extrudes
